The New Star Wars Movies

When I initially heard of the sale of Lucasfilm to Disney, I knew then that the bad times were coming. That George Lucas had finally given up hope and sold off everything to a multi-national company who cared little for the Star Wars franchise.

But after thinking about it for long enough, I couldn't think of anyone I'd least like in charge of any future Star Wars films than George himself. He has royally ruined the Star War universe and franchise with his prequel trilogy, and firmly shown himself as being inadequate when given total control over every film making element. The Phantom Menace is a textbook example of how not to make a film. Every preventable element that could have gone wrong went wrong. If George was at a crossroad and one direction was success and artistic integrity, and the other direction was commercial cash in and vapid content, he always choose the later. Rick McCallum (his executive producer) was from the outset a terrible yes-man who proved his worthlessness in helming the new trilogy. I am happy to see that with the acquisition by Disney his services are no longer required and is nowhere near the Star Wars franchise, and has hidden himself away in an Eastern European country.

I was always aware that Star Wars success was founded on one good idea that was "hi-jacked" by British film-makers who took over the film from a fairly useless American director and actually made a half decent film. Apparently that experience haunted George and he gave director duties to other directors for the remaining two films.

With the advent of digital technology it gave him a chance for total control, and the prequel trilogy is perfect evidence at how poor his talents really are.

So in retrospect, now that Disney have taken one of the biggest movie franchises away from the one man who has the power to ruin it, Im very happy.

We are promised one Star Wars movie every year, a continuation of the story one year, and the next year a one-off film about supporting characters ad finitum.

The only sad point is the closure of Lucasarts and all their development on games. My only hope is that they teams and personnel responsible move on to develop news games or carry on with projects they already were working on.

Aren't You a Little Short for a Stormtrooper?

That oft quoted insult to Luke Skywalker by Princess Leia (his unknowing sister), remarked when he arrives in her detention cell on the Death Star says

"Aren't you a little short for a stormtrooper?"

to which Luke responds by removing his helmet (another of Mr. Lucas's revealing moments) and saying

"Im Luke Skywalker, and Im here to rescue you."

Okay so Leia notices that Luke is short for a stormtrooper.
So why didnt anyone else notice? Or is Leia in prison so much she knows the "screws"!

D&D Gutted?

I thought Id have a look at how Darths and Droids was getting on, I knew they were starting from the first prequel film and working forwards. I have discovered (hardly a difficult revalation) that they have also done the original film trilogy as well. Bastards

http://www.darthsanddroids.net/

I thoroughly recommend you go there and have a look. I have not looked because I dont want their humour or style to rub off on me, nor to I want to steal any of their jokes. My humour is very dark and British, rather than the American style they have there.

But I intend to write and finish the scripts I have and publish them and then wait and see what people think.

Scripts for DM of the Galaxy

Im currently in the process of formatting all my scripts and ideas into a format ready for producing the comic.

I've decided on a standard layout and editing everything I have written to suit the format I want to follow. Its been both good and bad. Good in that it means my jokes are tighter and a single episode suddenly becomes two or three, but bad because I'm not used to working to strict formats before. So maybe its not bad thing learning something new.

I also want to set a deadline, ideally once per month.

I am planning on publishing them online for free, but I will ensure that they are in order, but may go back and embellish them afterwards or insert an extra comic episode where necessary.

Lets plan on the first episode being 1st July 2014. I hope this date doesnt come back to haunt/ridicule me.

Migration

Im currently in the process of migrating the few posts I made on WordPress and moving them here.

New Home of DM of the Galaxy

After much stalling, I have decided that this will be the new home of DM of the Galaxy, my tribute to DM of the Rings but with a Star Wars original trilogy angle.

I made so few posts on the original blog that I will be starting from scratch here all over again. No bad thing.
